ROBBERY PREVENTION TIPS

Keep in the cash drawer the smallest amount cash needed to operate and use a drop safe or similar robbery-resistive container to store excess cash.

Make bank deposits at least daily, vary the time and route, and use two people to deposits or use a courier service.

Do not allow unneeded cash to build up.

Place notices in prominent places on the premises which announce the cash protection procedures.

Arrange for maximum visibility of the cashiers counter from outside premises.

Provide initial and refresher training to store personnel concerning excess cash; post warning signs provide training on what to do when a robbery occurs.

Robbery is often committed with the aid of a lethal weapon and is accompanied by stress and fear on the part of the robber and the victim, thereby creating a potential for serious injury death.

Robbers may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and are likely to act violently.

The most vulnerable times for robberies are the closing and opening periods.

Robbers may visit an establishment one or more times to work out a plan.

Maintain liaison with local law enforcement, especially with those officers who patrol in the immediate neighborhood.

Install alarm equipment and CCTV, or capability to photograph a robbery in progress, post warning signs that such equipment is installed, and mount cameras so they will serve as psychological deterrents.
